Pop-culture” is a term for the western phenomenon of products for the mass consumer. And this phenomenon is created due to market economy. Logically, this situation couldn’t be formed in conditions of Soviet ideology. Otherwise, Soviet Union had its own popular films, hit songs and fancy periodicals. So, we could say that pop-culture phenomenon had a place in Soviet history, but it has a different origin.

This visual study explores the period of 50—60s in USSR, which was called the Khrushchev Thaw.
